Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

Did you know that as a San Jose State University student, you have access to free mental health services through the Student Wellness Center's Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)? In fact, CAPS exists specifically to help SJSU students advance their personal development, enhance learning, and address life crises by providing both mental health services and educational counseling.

In a Crisis?

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency and needs immediate assistance during CAPS hours of operation, there is always someone available to assist on the phone or in person (in which case, please utilize the contact information above).

If it's after-hours, please call 911. If you live on the SJSU campus, you can call campus police at (408) 924-2222 or you may also call the CAPS main number (408-924-5910) after hours and press 4 to connect with the after-hours crisis service.

The County Suicide & Crisis Line is also available at (855)278-4204 24/7 or you may also send a text stating ANSWER to 839863 and the Crisis Call Center will respond 24/7/365.

Additionally, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
